Day in the Life: Michelle Seymour, Consultant, Due Diligence
In our latest installment of our Day in the Life series, we meet with Michelle Seymour. As a consultant in the Due Diligence team, Michelle's role involves independent technical advisory for offshore wind, onshore wind, and solar projects. She primarily works on lenders’ technical advisory engagements for projects under construction, analysing technical information, identifying potential risks, and liaising with project stakeholders.

For Michelle, maintaining a balance between work and wellbeing is key. As she works from home, she prioritises getting outdoors before settling into her day. Whether it’s a morning run, a swim at the beach, or simply a walk to a local café, Michelle finds that movement and fresh air help set a positive tone for the hours ahead, sharing: "I find it really important to get out in the mornings before I start my workday. I enjoy being active and I think getting some fresh air and exercise sets me up for a great day at work."
Once at her desk, Michelle starts by reviewing emails received overnight, planning her tasks, and updating her weekly schedule. Given that many of her colleagues are based in Europe, she has flexibility in structuring her mornings. Typically, she responds to emails first before diving into more time-intensive tasks. "My day-to-day work varies a lot depending on the projects I'm working on,” shares Michelle. “I like to tackle the more complex tasks in the morning when I’m most focused."
Lunchtime is an important break in Michelle’s workday. Since she works from home, she values taking time away from her desk to head outside, as well as preparing a home-cooked meal. "I love cooking, and I think it’s really important to take a break and get outside,” comments Michelle. “My usual routine includes making lunch and then listening to a podcast or music before heading back to my desk."

Afternoons tend to be more meeting-heavy for Michelle, as she aligns with colleagues and clients across different time zones. Much of her work involves coordinating with teams in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Michelle shares, "The afternoons and evenings tend to be when I have most of my team and client meetings. This is when I get the opportunity to discuss ongoing projects and collaborate with our specialists."
Her role involves engaging with project companies, analysing construction progress, reporting risks to lenders, and managing internal teams. Working with an international team provides plenty of opportunities to learn from global experts, Michelle comments: "One of the things I love most about my role is working with a global team. I enjoy engaging with the specialists within K2 Management and gaining more experience in the technical aspects of projects we work on.”
As the workday wraps up, Michelle likes to unwind with activities that keep her active and social. Whether it’s heading to the beach for a sunset dip, catching up with friends, or swimming at a local pool, she makes time to disconnect from work. Michelle shares that her routine is similar to that of the morning: “I enjoy getting outside in the evenings, whether it’s swim training, a quick trip to the beach, or catching up with friends."
Michelle reflects on how her passion for renewable energy consulting stems from the dynamic nature of her work. The opportunity to collaborate with international teams and contribute to large-scale wind and solar projects keeps her engaged. "I love that my job allows me to work on projects around the world,” shares Michelle. “The variety keeps things interesting, and I really enjoy engaging with different teams and stakeholders. So far, I’ve had the chance to travel to Thailand, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, and New Zealand. It’s one of the things I appreciate most about my job."
Looking ahead, Michelle hopes to apply her global experience to projects in Australia, contributing to the country’s growing offshore wind industry, adding, "Right now, I’m really enjoying working on diverse projects and engaging with clients worldwide. In the long term, I’d like to take my experience and apply it to offshore wind developments in Australia."
With a structured yet flexible approach to her day, Michelle balances technical advisory work with time for personal well-being, demonstrating how a career in renewable energy consultancy can be both rewarding and dynamic.
