The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project is the first offshore wind farm project in the mid Atlantic, located 27 miles off the coast of Virginia, with capacity to generate energy to power over 3,000 homes.

And in 2022, K2 Management became one of the key project partners instructed by site owner and developer, Dominion Energy. As one of Dominion Energy’s key projects, the site has a capacity of 2.6GW via 176 offshore wind turbines, making it a significant contributor to the growth of the offshore wind industry in the United States. It marks a great step towards the country’s target of 30 gigawatts of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 and will act as a flagship example of a highly-innovative renewable energy development.

“As the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project takes the mainstage in US offshore wind development, it will attract the interest and scrutiny of future industry stakeholders and investors. With the experience of our work in other global offshore wind markets, we’re singularly focused on ensuring that Dominion benefits from learning experiences elsewhere and is set up for long term success.” says Lars Andersen, President - Americas, K2 Management.

In 2022, Dominion Energy instructed K2 Management to provide Quality Oversight services for the project in a partnership spanning four years and 2.6GW of capacity. K2 Management assumed responsibility as Owner's Quality Assurance Representative for the organization, and the team has been instructed to provide additional supporting services for all major components during manufacturing and delivery to Portsmouth Marine Terminal in Virginia.

The manufacturing stage of the project commenced in Q4 of 2022, marking the start of a detailed collaborative effort between K2 Management and Dominion Energy that will continue until the project’s estimated completion date of April 2027.

The project itself also leverages wider community networks, engaging with a wide range of local firms including the surrounding Hampton Roads businesses and workers.

“Given its wealth of experience, K2M is the clear partner to oversee the day-to-day fabrication at our suppliers’ facilities, as well as the delivery of major components to the Portsmouth Marine Terminal. We are at the forefront of delivering reliable, affordable and increasingly clean energy to our customers, and this partnership is going to help us meet those expectations with our offshore wind project.”
